I was looting a wrecked factory the other night and thinking about how fast trust burns up in this game. People will smile in prox chat, then do the maths on your backpack. If you're farming gear or even just stacking ARC Raiders Coins to keep your runs going, you learn quick that "friendly" is usually just a pause before something nasty happens.

Two squads, one bad idea
It started in an industrial complex that looked half-collapsed and still somehow full of angles to die from. A Scottish duo ran into two Americans, one from Kentucky and one from Ohio. First reaction was exactly what you'd expect: tense standoff, lots of mouthy chatter. The Americans kept taking the piss out of the accents, proper schoolyard stuff. But then that survival switch flipped. Nobody wanted to burn meds and ammo on a pointless scrap, so they agreed to a shaky truce and moved together.

The friendly-fire moment
Not even a minute later, another hostile group pushed their edge. It turned into that messy, fog-and-muzzle-flash kind of fight where you're shooting at shapes. In the middle of it, one of the Scots panicked and accidentally dropped the Ohio guy. You could hear it in her voice—full-on "oh no, I'm so sorry," trying to explain she lost track of who was where. Weirdly, the downed guy was calm. Just said it happens, get him up, let's keep moving. For a second, it felt like the truce had legs.

Matt decides the raid ends now
They pushed out into the open fog after the fight, and that's when it went rotten. Matt, the other Scot, didn't argue or threaten. He just turned and started shooting the Americans in the back like he'd queued it up in his head ages ago. No warning. No "drop your loot." Just execution. His teammate was yelling, proper furious, asking what the hell he was doing. Matt kept mumbling that he didn't want to, like that made it better, while he kept firing anyway.

What people forget about "teamwork"
The spray, the panic, the bad visibility—everyone folded fast. The Americans went down, and then the Scottish woman got caught in it too, bleeding out while still trying to understand why her own mate flipped. That's the bit that sticks with players: she tried to do the decent thing, owned her mistake, and still paid for someone else's greed. If you're heading in with random alliances, keep your spacing, keep your cover, and don't let a smooth voice sell you safety—especially when there's loot on the line and someone's already thinking about ARC Raiders Coins cheap as the run goes quiet.
