If you are exploring Chapter 2 of Path of Exile 2, the Keth map has several hidden locations that can be easy to overlook. One of these is the Abandoned Shrine, a small secret area with a useful chest and an unexpected ambush. Knowing where to look can save time, especially when you are trying to collect POE2 Currency and clear every exploration point on the map.

The Abandoned Shrine is not presented like a normal dungeon entrance. Instead, you need to search the surrounding Keth area for a building that is still largely intact. Once you find the right structure, its hidden entrance will lead you into the shrine and begin the encounter.

Search the Keth Map for an Intact Building

Your first goal is to explore Keth carefully and identify a building that looks different from the surrounding ruins. The structure does not necessarily stand out immediately, so it is worth checking buildings rather than simply following the main route.

After entering the correct building, look around the interior for a concealed doorway or passage. Interacting with this entrance takes you to the hidden shrine area.

Depending on your map or the way the location is displayed, you may see names such as Abandoned Prayer or Shrine of Hotek associated with the area. These names can make the location seem different, but they are connected to the same hidden exploration encounter.

Prepare for the Shrine Ambush

Once inside, the shrine appears fairly harmless at first. You may notice several piles of gold scattered around the area, along with a rare chest that looks like an easy reward.

However, approaching the treasure triggers an ambush. Enemies hidden beneath the sand emerge and attack once you get close enough. This can catch characters off guard, particularly if you rush toward the chest without checking the area first.

Take a moment to position yourself before approaching the treasure. Clearing the enemies gives you a much safer opportunity to open the chest and collect everything it provides.

Collect the Chest Rewards

After defeating the enemies, you can open the special chest associated with the shrine, such as the Hotek Shrine chest. The rewards can include different pieces of equipment, with Magic Amulets among the possible drops.

This makes the hidden location worth checking even if you are not specifically trying to complete every map objective. The reward is also available again when playing through Cruel difficulty, giving the location additional value during another playthrough.

While the rewards are not guaranteed to be exceptional every time, the encounter is quick enough to make the shrine a useful stop when you are already exploring Keth.

Why the Map Icon Stays Active

One of the most confusing parts of this location comes after the fight. Some players defeat every enemy, open the chest, and leave, only to discover that the exploration icon on the map is still active instead of turning gray.

This does not necessarily mean that the encounter failed or that another enemy is hiding somewhere nearby. The important step is connected to the items dropped by the chest.

After opening the chest, make sure every dropped item has been picked up. Even low-value equipment or items that you would normally ignore can prevent the location from being marked as completed.

Pick Up Every Dropped Item

The game checks whether the chest's dropped items have been cleared before considering the hidden point fully completed. If an unwanted item remains on the ground, the map marker may continue to appear active.

You do not have to keep useless gear permanently. If your inventory is full or you simply do not want the items, you can pick them up and then drop them again. The important part is that the original chest loot is collected.

This small detail is easy to miss and is the main reason players sometimes think the Abandoned Shrine is bugged.

Complete the Shrine Without Missing Anything

The safest approach is simple: find the intact building in Keth, enter through the hidden doorway, prepare for the sand ambush, defeat the enemies, and open the special chest. Before leaving, check the ground carefully and pick up every item that the chest dropped.

Following these steps should allow the location to register properly and cause its map icon to turn gray. If you are also looking for cheap POE 2 Currency Orbs, completing hidden encounters like this can be a useful part of a broader exploration and loot-gathering routine.
